Angel Sanctuary, Vol. 1Angel Sanctuary, Vol. 1 by Kaori Yuki
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kaori Yuki is probably the most interesting artist in manga. Though her story telling is border-line insane, and if you get to absorbed in this story; it could give you nightmares.

"Let's Kill Each Other!" is the title for the first volume cover art. This has our entire cast of characters, and what a cast it is!
On top of that a very complicated mythos to get through.
Then an introduction that just jumps right in on a present-day high school setting.

Here's an awesome quote that the main character says at the beginning of the sh*&storm.
"From the beginning, if you come near me again. I'll sell you off to a gay bar!" All while flipping off the transvestite macking on him.

All of my manga friends should check this out if you haven't yet.

Storm Front (The Dresden Files, #1)Storm Front by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So far I'm really liking this style of writing. It's completely different from reading a female author's perspective for obvious reasons. I haven't run into any nasty over dramatized romance.
I honestly wasn't even expecting a male protagonist. I did like the character Harry Dresden. He was honest, simple, and at times lacking on common sense.
Bob the skull, Mister, and Murphy are all excellent characters. There were plenty of action scenes, and I loved the battle with the toad demon.
Another thing that I seemed to like is the feel of the plot and what it gave off. I was reminded of the movie Se7en. If you've never seen it you won't know what I'm talking about. On a scale of book series only in the settings wise would it be compared to Chicagoland Vampires. I've found that a lot of series are trying to glorify Chicago, and I'm not a really big fan of Chicago.
Other than that it was an enjoyable read, and I hope you can enjoy it as well.

“Paranoid? Probably. But just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't an invisible demon about to eat your face.” ― Jim Butcher, Storm Front
Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2)Fool Moon by Jim Butcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

So far I'm starting to really love the series. I really like the way Harry has his apartment set up with textures and fabrics. I like it and can sympathize with large appliances always breaking just by bumping into them. Literally I have family members and hospital nurses who can confirm this. One reason I don't own a smart phone is that I've already broken two of my friend's phones just by holding it for them. It's not fair I tell you.
Bob the skull is a very funny and informative character.I always have the feeling that he's about to tell Harry...

I'm just not sure how Harry gets drawn into these situations. How is he still alive, really? The sub- conscience conversation was a very interesting topic, that I'm sure that others that enjoyed this would agree. Also the variations on lyconthropes was amazing; what can I say? I just haven't read it anywhere else before, and I've read a lot. (view spoiler)
Good Job on this one Mr. Butcher!

Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, #3)Grave Peril by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I immensely enjoyed this installment to the Dresden Files, yet I was a little perturbed by the pacing of the plot that this one took. Yay, Bob the talking skull gets to go along on part of the adventure with Harry. All in all this was a bit darker, more maudlin, and less technical in explanations than the previous two.
This book is where Micheal Carpenter and Thomas Raith are introduced. Pay attention to them because they are pretty big players in future books ahead.
It took me almost the entire book to find out who the culprit was in this book, so that was a fantastic thing. Other than that I'm not telling you because you need to go read it for yourself.
Cheers and Happy Reading!

Summer Knight (The Dresden Files, #4)Summer Knight by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

OOooooo Yay! Another back porch read. I can not wait until the weather is sunny again. I swear I will never read Mr. Butcher's work right before bed again. The last one had me scared spitless...
Photobucket
Though I do enjoy his writing style; it is imaginatively creepy, straight forward, and realistic for the paranormal topic.

Well it doesn't seem that the weather is going to be agreeable, so I am going to crawl into my rainy day reading chair and give it a go.
Harry seems to be having a hard go of it compared to the last book. I wonder what type of involvement he is going to have with the Fae in this book. One thing that Mr. Butcher has done is give you clues to the plot in the title itself.
Oh lordy! Mab Queen of air and darkness is going to be Harry's employer! At least this is more believable comparable to LKH. This was an unexpected development that I enjoyed. The number of beasties in this book grows, and there is more variety than most series that I've read. The Gatekeeper is a character that endeared himself to me, and I found much humor in his personality.
I'm also left to wonder where, Harry's love interest, Susan has disappeared to, or if Harry is going to move on? Wonder if there is some possibility in a relationship between him and Murphy. The chemistry between the two is an excellent possibility. Onto the next in the series.
Cheers and Happy Holiday Reading Folks!

Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5)Death Masks by Jim Butcher
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oh this installment has been so awesome that there are few words that could describe. I had no clue that Harry was going to be chasing after The effing Shroud of Turin!
This book is where you meet the other two Knights of the Cross, and the Denarians. The Denarians are people who have Fallen to the temptation of the 30 pieces of silver from the traitor Judas.
The reappearance of Susan was a bit of a let down, and her reasoning was a tad bit annoying. If you can't tell I'm rooting for Murphy. Bob the skull is just as interesting and hysterical as always. Always love reading the parts he's included. I wonder how the next book is going to turn out?

ooohhh yay a puppy! Just what the series was missing in the cuteness factor! I love you Jim Butcher! What a wonderful character you have created in this little dog.

Then this quote just hit me like a train. Just screamed it, and I believe this to the quick of my fingertips...

Photobucket

"Certainly it garnered a very different reaction from various supernatural entities than my everyday wizardry did, so maybe they weren't related at all.
But that didn't matter. I wasn't holding a crucifix in the thing's face. I was holding the symbol of what I believed in. The five-pointed star of the pentacle represented the five forces of the universe, those of air, fire, water, earth, and of spiritual energy, laid into patterns of order and life and bound within a circle of human thought, human will. I believed that magic was fundamentally a force of life, of good, something meant to protect and preserve. I believed that those who wielded it therefore had a responsibility to use that power in the way it was meant to be used—and that was belief enough to tap into the vast power of faith, and to direct it against One-ear."

Dead Beat (The Dresden Files, #7)Dead Beat by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another fantastic addition to the series. In this installment I really felt sorry for Harry, he has been put through the ringer on so many different levels. In the last book his hand was rendered useless from being severely burned, and in this one he has a shurikan wound in his opposite leg. This is a terrible combination from a less severe experience of my own, and can say that I really sympathize.
One thing that I don't fully comprehend is the passage of time in this plot, and I think that I've missed something in-between books.

Bob the skull was really scary in this installment, and had the creeping willies from his recovery of memories of a former owner. This section is where you would want to fact check, and I did do that about WWI. I learned so much about this topic. Thank you, Jim Butcher, for peaking my interest in the history aspect of your books.

Also glad to see that the puppy from the last book has turned into a great and terrible beastie. He is a very funny character, and I enjoy the comedic relief he brings to the series.

Also "Polka will never Die!"

Proven Guilty (The Dresden Files, #8)Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher

I don't know what it is about this series. I just can not stop reading it. For some strange reason I keep expecting Harry to have a pudding moment, you know like this...

For a good majority of the plot I was doing this...
 photo 1264555845091_zps7838e2c8.gif

To me I thought that most had established that Molly had the gift two books back when Harry squatted in the tree house. It was just ironing out the details of which parent was magically inclined. Other than that the book was golden.

Jim Butcher I swear you can not kill off Mouse! Him and Bob the skull are my favorite characters in this series, so just don't do it. Brilliant concept on the miniature Chicago, it reminded me so much of when I was a kid watching BeetleJuice.

On to the next. Cheers you ghouls!

White Night (The Dresden Files, #9)White Night by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ok for this installment I thought that Harry was just about to be pushed over the mental cliff. Nuttier than a fruitcake crazy.
He was just missing to many clues throughout the entire book. I had such a hard time reading this one. I had to read several chapters more than two or three times. I kept wondering where this New Mexico plotline came from. My attitude throughout this book was mostly this...

Now I'm starting the next book. I hope that it will be better than this one. It just wasn't a favorite. Still I love the series.

Small Favor (The Dresden Files, #10)Small Favor by Jim Butcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great factors to this book:
Denarians, Billy Goats Gruff, Mouse, Bob the Skull, Grimalkin, and Mab the Queen of Air and Darkness.
Some not so great factors to this book:
Harry has become excessively dark in this book.
By this point in the series, things are really starting to become very convoluted. It's hard to work out some of the characters, and where their associations lie.

While this book starts off on a lighter note it then turns extremly dark very quickly.

Turn Coat Review photo 1252074937_Subterranean_Homesick_Kitten_zpsdd51cd9b.gif

Yes almost that ridiculous. This book took the series to a level up. Mr. Butcher isn't afraid to insert tragedy into his writings. He took a very realistic approach to the plot. There was a bit of political intrigue with the White Council, and finding the traitor. It kept me on edge, and I was left scratching my head until just about the page before it happened. Let me tell you, you'll never expect it.
I have a feeling that I'll be in tears at the end of the next book. I've been through all sorts of emotions with The Dresden Files.

I was so glad to find this. I love the series, but was always so disappointed to miss out on the short stories and novellas. Like in the short "It's my Birthday Too." I love the fact that you see more creature features in the shorts.
The very last story was a spoiler for me because I didn't know that I needed to read past the 11th book. So I'm automatically off to reading book 11.
But where in the Hell's Bells can I read about the Fungus demons?
Cheers people!

At the beginning of this Dresden Files this flashed through my brain...

I will have this book in my hands. Mwahahahahahahahahaha!

I have it! I have it!

Most epic and gory quote so far...

"So. Assume Marcone wanted anyone who tried to force their way into his vault reduced to salsa. Assume he was perfectly well aware how hard a lot of supernatural beings were to hurt. How would he handle it?
Overkill, that’s how.
I was guessing he’d installed one claymore mine per square foot of wall. Multiply that by, for simplicity’s sake, three hundred ball bearings each, and you had a whole freaking lot of round pieces of metal waiting to tear us all to shreds. They would bounce around the steel walls of this room like BBs rattling around the inside of a tin can and render any physical body in it to churned meat sauce."

The Princess Bride The Princess Bride by William Goldman
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As Mr. Goldman says in the beginning, 'This is my favorite book,' I agree. I am constantly watching the news so a line said by Fezzik's father really struck me. 'Life is pain Fezzik, anyone who says differently is selling something.' Does this sound familiar? Healthcare! Cap and Trade!
Another very admirable character is Indigo. His drive, his love for his father, and honor has really influenced my way of looking at the theory of chivalry. What happened to values? And as Glenn Beck puts it 'What has happened to common sense?'
My favorite lines are: "Don't rush a miracle, or you'll get a rotten miracle."
"As you wish."
"Good job Wesley, sleep well, I'll probably kill you tomorrow."

The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

 photo tumblr_m6k3iwRtym1qm6oc3o1_500.gif

This book was such a strong and thought provocative story. Kvothe is an excellent character that suffers greatly from his creator. What a damn tragic life he leads, it's no wonder that he's hiding out as an innkeeper! Rothfuss isn't shy of torturing his characters. The author broke down human emotion and behavior down to a visceral level that shocked me in some parts of the book.

Bast was an interesting character that I'm looking forward to reading about, and really hope that he will be as great as his mentor. For some reason when I picture him in my head I think of this guy...
David Krumholtz photo: Charlie Eppes 2113151.jpg
What I don't think I was expecting, was that the book was of a double story. The 'how I got to where I am,' type of story. It wasn't strictly a narrative, and that threw me. Excellent grammar by the way. Huge plus for my preferences.Huzzah for grammar!

By the end of the book, and the sudden cut off I was in this state...

This was a really fun adventure to read. I liked the flow of the plot, and the brief dialogue between the characters. I certainly wasn't expecting a dragon, imps, a DeVil, and most a War unicorn.
